A rant about the myth of "Work Part Time"
Are you tired of the endless hype about how easy it is to grow your business?
You know:
- "Make money in your sleep"
- "Work part time and be a millionaire"
- "Six figures without working"
I'm sure you've heard it all too.
And frankly I'm really fed up with it.
I think it's a huge disservice to encourage people to aim so low.
LOW, You say?
Aiming to work part time and making great money is aiming low?
Yes, I absolutely do.
Hear me out.
To strive for the goal of how little work you can do is, in my book, completely missing the mark.
Is your intention really to work as little as humanly possible and then go enjoy your life?
Or does it have more to do with loving your life right now, as you go?
Is your intention actually to continue to get better?
By better, I mean:
More clear, peaceful, inspired and happy
More open, curious and engaged,
And more focused, determined and effective.
My personal goals actually come from that intention, and it makes a world of difference.
What if, instead, you choose to intend to love what you do so much that there is no distinction between your work and your life, and both are wildly successful?
To be so engaged that your life is all one piece, and the idea of working part time loses its meaning.
So that, at the end of the year or the end of your life, you can relax and say:
Yes. I have showed up in the way I most wanted. I have lived my life.
This is my intention. To live an exceptional life where work and play intertwine beautifully.
I'm actually not interested in working part time.
I am almost always "on" – mulling things over, taking things in, picking up metaphors that help in my work, putting pieces together as I watch a movie.
Don't get me wrong. I do not “work” all the time if by work, you mean struggle and do things I would rather not be doing.
I live an exceptional life. I play, I explore, I engage with people, AND I work hard. In an inspired way.
And I like making great money helping people, changing lives. Do not for one minute believe I am against making money.
I just want to do it while I LOVE MY WORK AND MY LIFE.
I want to love it all. More and more.
Every day.
To make that true, I intend to live right in the middle of my passion.
My passion is learning how I can create and enjoy even more magic, more synchronicity, and live in even more inspiration.
My work is helping people who share this goal to do exactly the same thing.
Here is my personal belief:
No matter how successful any of us get, we always have places – maybe call them our current blind spots – that get in the way of us being even better.
As I said above – by better, I mean:
More clear, peaceful, inspired and happy
More open, curious and engaged,
And more focused, determined and effective.
To me, those are the hallmarks of an amazing life, and that is my goal. To get better and better in those ways.
I am quite aware that a lot of people have different goals, and I honor that completely.
AND if you yourself share these goals, this is a really great time to make a serious move toward achieving them.
